My favorite restaurant in the Boston area over time, Rialto consistently presents distilled virtuosity in a setting of exceptional elegance and comfort. Jody Adams has the patience to wait for inspiration, which she weaves into her food, Rialto's decor and its ambience...and then she LEAVES IT ALONE! Is it ego or what that deprives her colleagues of a sense for when it is time to leave things be? If you like the challenge of "Boston Glob," go to Salamander. If you seek transcendent beauty, go to Rialto. You won't find it there, but it's as close as you can get in Boston.(12/97)
